April Fools Day !

Given the fact that, there have been “n” number of contests happening on Twitter & Facebook daily.  People who are contest freaks were all set to win a lot of freebies on 1st April as well.

There are people on Twitter who keep tweeting like a machine & it seems like their only aim in life is to play & win contests. Sometimes I wonder if they have a “LIFE” of their own or they  “LIVE” only to play such contests!

So on April Fools Day as a lot of people were trying to keep themselves safe & not get fooled by their friends and family, little did they know that a Brand which has been making them win big will fool them.
One such Brand which really caught my eye & whose prank I found interesting was “Godrej Aer”.

These people have definitely been planning the campaign for a while now as they really made the prank look so genuine, not only on their social media platforms but also on their website.

So ! What was the Prank about?

Godrej Aer promised to bring out the World's  #firsteverfragranceapp. They made use of  their website, Facebook & Twitter for their campaign.

On Twitter :

They asked people to tweet with the hashtag #firsteverfragranceapp & tag as many friends possible. People tweeted with enthusiasm as to which fragrance they would like from their app & the winners were given prizes like a Sony Cybershot Camera and an IPad Mini.

On the Website:

When you go their website www.godrejaer.com It feels like a robot is welcoming you & asking you to wait & do as he says. The voice of the lady asks you to come closer to the screen in order to be able to smell the fragrance when the green light goes on.

After a couple of seconds you get a notification whether you can smell the fragrance with two options “Yes”  or “No” – Once you click on “YES” it takes you to a page which says “Come on, You can’t be serious, We can’t make fragrance come out of your screen”.

The ones who clicked “NO” were given another  option “Come closer to the screen, Inhale deeply when the green light comes on. Press the spacebar when you’re ready.”

Then again when someone presses a space bar it says “Come on, You can’t be serious, We can’t make fragrance come out of your screen”.

On Facebook:

They also developed an application on Facebook which said “sweet rose fragrance app” – The world’s #firsteverfragranceapp. Download it for free & smell fresh roses on your device”.

When people clicked on Download they got a customized message with their name “Dear _________  aerpril’s fool! “ Along with a message that Godrej Aer can’t make devices fragrant but with their products you could make your car & room fragrant!

Overall I think it was a very well ideated & executed campaign, Something different & creative I have come across in a while.

The best part was, they made it look so real by working on their website, using Facebook + Twitter that made many people actually fall for the Prank!

People behind those Facebook Pages & Twitter Handles!

Yesterday I came across this Question posted on Social Samosa’s Facebook Page : What do you think should be the ideal first salary for a social media executive?

Being a Social Media Executive, I couldn’t stop myself from commenting on the status! It obviously attracted people from the Digital Field & some Agency Owners. The salary quoted by people ranged from about 5.5k to 30k. It is but obvious that some of the people who quoted salaries in the range of 5.5k – 10k were agency owners!

I have always loved having my own social media space – my own Social identity  – this over a period of time has helped me in many ways!  I have made lot of friends, business relations & one of the reason I am a part of this Digital world today is due to my activity on various social media platforms!

When I often meet new people & tell them about my Profile, some raise their eyebrows but many others seem pretty excited to know what exactly Social Media Marketing is all about.

Many people think Social Media Marketing is all about copying and pasting content from one place to various social media platforms. However, the reality is much different!

A Social Media Executive’s main job is to create content! That content can’t be picked up from somewhere else. It has to be original. Their minds are constantly working & thinking what’s next!  The content generated by them has to be unique & catchy! Even though you can’t calculate ROI – there are other targets they have to achieve in terms of engagement/ interactions / likes, etc!

SME’s have to constantly monitor the Brand’s various Social Media Platforms..Come up with creative social campaign ideas, generate content, make sure the content initiates conversations & interactions! Not only that, they are a link between the Client & the Consumers much like a Client Servicing person! That is, A Dual Role!! Oh wait a minute did I forget to mention – he/she should also have basic Photoshop skills – so the work becomes more easier for them than when the creative team is busy with other work?? A SME has to constantly be in touch with the client - understand the client’s requirements & then execute the same in a style which appeals to the audience!

There are times when people are enjoying Holi, Celebrating Christmas, Eid, Diwali & SME’s are busy running contests & campaigns on Social Media - NO they don’t get brownie points for that! No matter where in the world they go, they have to constantly keep checking / working through phone or their laptops, that means, even if you have taken an off – you don’t get a complete OFF day – you still have to make sure you have done your work because you can’t trust someone else with the Brand you handle!

Social Media Executives are very important! Why? Because they are your Brand’s lifeline!! One wrong move & the Brand’s Image is killed!

Still think that they don’t deserve being paid a good salary? Then go DIE!

My views on the Web 2.0

Its been quite sometime now since i've explored and met people from the social world or rather let me put it how some people call it "the virtual world". To be honest, the kind of people and exposure i've got is worth the risk taken to meet them.

A lot of people give that surprising or shocked look when a discussion about an online community or a group comes up. For some people meeting online friends  or  the people you interact with on the internet is rather weird and stupid but it has been the best experience ever for me.

It has not only helped me build great connections, make some of the most awesome friends ( male as well as female)  but also changed me over a period of time by building confidence in me and helping me think differently.

For me the web 2.0 is as good as real and i don't discriminate between the two. Yes ofcourse, every individual should be careful while interacting or  before meeting  an unknown person .I'd say give it time before you finally decide to meet your online friend. He/She may turn out to be your best friend or your worst nightmare. So be careful !

We are living in this digital age, wherein people spend more time interacting on social networking websites & micro blogging websites than they do on checking their emails. Majority of the youth today check their facebook when they get up and before they sleep.  Brands advertise and create pages & promote their brand through facebook. They also run contests and campaigns to engage the consumers on facebook.

Similarly, Twitter is one such place where even though you have 140 characters limit, you can just tweet unlimited, follow interesting people, build good connections, follow your favorite brands and get latest news for the same. For me twitter is a source of entertainment, networking & a place to get latest information (news). Since the time i have started using twitter i have been more updated on whats happening around in the world than i was earlier.

Brands now interact directly with the consumers on 1-1 basis, pay attention to their grievances and try to give them a solution at the earliest. I think this is the best way to know the exact happenings.

For example, I like how Vodafone on twitter is very instant & helpful. They make it a point to reply each and every consumer's query & also solve it for them at the earliest. They get in touch with the consumers and help them with their grievances.

Well who knew someday consumers would be given so much importance & taken care of so aptly?

10 things girls discuss or do when they meet!

Inspired by a recent blog post I read somewhere I thought I might as well come up with something more interesting than the usual stuff I write. Boys for that matter are very eager to know what exactly do girls discuss when they meet that their conversations never seem to end. A friend of mine the other day said that girls only like to keep bitching about other girls and crib about their boyfriend. Instead of fighting or denying my friend’s statement I thought I might as well come up with a blog post about what girls really talk about when they meet up based on personal experience and a few borrowed statements from my girl friends ofcourse.

A few things that girls discuss & do when they meet : -

1.       Clothes : Mostly if you’re one of those 95% girls who are obviously conscious about what they wear or keep checking out what others wear then you are bound to discuss clothes. Usually when a guy and a girl hangout together and if the boy seems pretty amazed if his girl is looking at another chick – boy she isn’t checking her out she’s probably just looking at the girls outfit and developing a feedback in her mind. Girls usually check out what other girls or their girlfriends are wearing if they like it they’ll give an honest opinion about it, if she doesn’t she will obviously give out her blunt opinions or atleast ridicule the opposite person’s dressing sense in her mind if not verbally!

2.       Shopping : Yes girls discuss about all the shopping they did since their last meeting and sometimes they might even carry the stuff they shopped for to show their girl friends.

3.       Boyfriends / Guys :  Girls usually discuss about their boyfriends. They discuss about what their boyfriends did, where they went with their boyfriend and what all he did for her. There is a constant comparison with each others boyfriends. Not only that, girls also discuss about their latest crushes, the cute guy they saw in the gym or at work and the number of guys who approached her and asked her out.

4.       Studies : Yep its not only shopping or guys that girls discuss about. Girls also discuss studies and share notes, etc . Sometimes they even end up studying together.

5.       Bitching : Yes, girls do bitch about other mean girls..specially the ones who are full of attitude.

6.       Facebook : Girls surf facebook and pictures of guys and girls and discuss what they think about the guy’s or girl’s pictures, etc.

7.       Click Pictures : Girls click about 100’s of pictures but only put a few of them on facebook because mostly the pictures are for memoriessss & not to be shared on a social networking website.

8.       Movie : When girls get together they watch movies. Specially movies like American Pie  or Sex & the city kinda movies..

9.       Eat : Yeah girls just keep eating anything and everything when they are together. They dun care if they will put on weight because they believe it’s a day off for them and they can eat as much as they want without worrying about the weight!

10.   Stay awake : Girls are super excited when they meet so they end up staying awake till 3 or 4 am in the morning and then they suddenly get exhausted and crash!!

Last but not the least girls do discuss about the 3 letter word smart enough people can understand the hint ;)  lol…
I think its enough for now & next time I think I should come up with a boy’s related post ;) ciao!

Facebook or Google+ ?

The latest buzz around is about Facebook going premium and how it is going to charge its members money for their account . On the other hand Mark Zuckerberg claims on his twitter account that Facebook will always remain free. I doubt Facebook will ever charge its users with the user loyalty they have generated over the years, Facebook has become the homepage of many of the web users.

I remember the days when Farmville was a hit, it still is. We used to get up in the middle of the night to check if the crops in the field have grown, we din’t want to lose money and let them get spoilt. It was giving the actual farming experience. Even now there are few games and applications which are addictive and give the same feeling.

Wherever you are in the world, you want to get back home and the first thing you do after switching on your laptop is to check facebook and your notifications. The groups which help you keep in touch with your classmates while doing your assignments late night add brownie points to the Social Networking website.

A new kid is on the block, its none other than our Google’s own “Google + “ initially it was only giving limited access to people who were invited by others but now it has become public and heavy registrations are taking place. The buzz around is, if Google + is going to beat Facebook? Will people still come to Facebook after exploring and getting flexible with the new social networking toy “google +” ?

Well for that we’ll have to wait and see. For now , In my opinion – Facebook has established itself and is a brand in itself and people will no matter what come back to Facebook at the end of the day. What happens in future, only time will say!
